Depression affects millions of people worldwide. Many of them do not recognize the symptoms or receive treatment. Common complaints of those with depression include hopelessness, fatigue, trouble sleeping, suicidal thoughts, restlessness and not caring about or enjoying things you have in the past. While it is natural in life to have highs and lows, depression is a longer lasting feeling of low mood.
Like many mental illnesses, depression can have genetic basis and be associated with other physical ailments or trauma. Treatment is often necessary in order to improve. This could include medication or psychotherapy, or both.
